About Whitney Wyatt
PH.D., LPC
Dr. Whitney N. Wyatt is a Counseling Psychologist in Nashville, TN. She is also a Licensed Professional Counselor in Tennessee and Georgia. Dr. Wyatt received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Tennessee State University. She also received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and her Masters of Education degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Dr. Wyatt has been practicing mental health counseling for over 10 years and has provided therapy for children, adolescents, families, adults, and college students. She has experience in suicide prevention and has been a QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention gatekeeper trainer, training individuals on how to help those in a suicide crisis. She also has worked with intimate partner violence survivors, sexual assault survivors, childhood trauma, substance use, crisis intervention, and treatment of psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Dr. Wyatt has worked with community agencies providing intensive outpatient group therapy for eating disorders, trauma, and substance abuse in teens and adults. Dr. Wyatt has been trained in administering psychological assessments for ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other psychological diagnoses for children, adolescents, and adults. She is a published author in the Journal of Psychological Integration and has a vast range of interests from psychological testing to advocacy for marginalized people.
Whitney is an advocate for Black women’s mental health and has research interests in understanding how sociopolitical factors impact the psychological wellbeing of Black women. Dr. Wyatt completed her dissertation on the intersection of racism, sexism, and classism of Black women and how those identities affect Black women’s mental health. Through her research and practice in psychotherapy, she continues to gain the knowledge necessary to provide optimal psychological care to her clients and making help-seeking more attainable for Black women and women of color.
