Athena Care
PHP/IOP Intensive Outpatient Care

PHP/IOP Intensive Outpatient Care

Comprehensive, individualized, and accessible PHP and IOP services

If you’re struggling with severe psychiatric issues or chronic symptoms that haven’t responded to routine treatment, Athena Care provides intensive outpatient services tailored to fit your needs. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates with you to create a therapeutic plan that’s flexible, individualized and comprehensive.

Athena Care is committed to improving access to quality mental health services, and we’re in-network with most commercial insurance providers.

What is intensive outpatient care?

These programs provide more intensive treatment, structure and support than traditional outpatient treatment, while still allowing you to go home at night and tend to your daily responsibilities.

Unlike programs at many other clinics, we can also provide treatments such as TMS and Spravato® (when appropriate) that may help you feel better more quickly and may reduce the likelihood that your symptoms will return.

Who might benefit from intensive outpatient care?
Our programs are a good fit for people who:
  • Struggle with severe psychiatric issues or chronic symptoms that haven’t responded to routine treatment
  • Need more intensive treatment and structure than traditional outpatient services but don’t require 24-hour monitoring
  • Are struggling to cope with a major life event
  • Have recently discharged from inpatient or residential care
Our programs are not a good fit for people who:
  • Require 24-hour monitoring
  • Are unable or unwilling to engage in treatment
  • Are at significant risk of hurting yourself or others and cannot commit to a safety plan
  • Are in active psychosis and resist treatment
  • Have a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder
Disorders We Treat

Our intensive programs are designed to address all behavioral health conditions as part of our individualized approach. However, we provide regular group programming that addresses these conditions and more:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Mood Instability
  • Self-Esteem
  • Eating Behaviors
  • Trauma Response
  • Co-Dependency
  • Distress Tolerance
  • Secondary substance abuse issues*

*Our programs work best for people whose primary issues relate to mood or other primary mental health concerns.

Which program is right for you?
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

PHP provides you with care that’s more intensive than traditional outpatient treatment but more flexible than inpatient care. You’ll receive increased structure and support while still being able to go home at night and sleep in your own bed. We’ll provide 5 hours per day of group programming and individual care for 5 days per week.

Our PHP program includes:

  • Rapid-response psychiatry
  • Medication management
  • Close monitoring by our team
  • Daily medical check-ins
  • Group therapies
  • Specialized break-out programs
  • Experiential groups
  • Individual psychotherapy
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

While still more intensive than traditional outpatient treatment, this program is a step down from PHP. It requires less time and commitment. You’ll receive 3 hours of programming per day for 2-5 days per week, depending on your need.

Our IOP program includes:

  • Group therapies
  • Specialized break-out programs
  • Experiential groups
  • Prioritized access to individual psychotherapy and medication management
  • Coordinated care with outside providers

Current Adult IOP schedule: M/W/F 2:00-5:00 PM
Current Adolescent IOP schedule: M/W/F 3:00-6:00 PM

Comprehensive care that doesn’t expire.

At our clinics, we have the unique opportunity to provide interventional services like Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Spravato®, or other Ketamine-based treatments alongside regular PHP and IOP services. If appropriate, you may be able to add one of these approaches to your treatment plan.

Integrative Care

Receiving interventional services in combination with intensive therapy may help you feel better more quickly and may reduce the likelihood that your symptoms will return.

After Care

When you complete intensive outpatient therapy, your medical and mental health team will make a comprehensive plan for your ongoing care that follows you for as long as you need. Unlike many other programs, we offer regular aftercare groups for you to attend, and you can remain connected to providers in our clinics. We also provide options for online medication management and psychotherapy, if needed.

We believe that the care you receive within our program is just the starting point in your journey to emotional wellness. Athena Care is here to serve you whenever you need us.
